Today was very full. We visited the American WWII Memorial nearby, it was beautiful and peaceful there. A stark constrast to the stories and history of the now-hallow grounds. Maastricht's main road dates back to Roman colonial times and has been an access point and main thoroughfare for several armies. The US was one of those. This was their most strategic spot, the one that they launched attacks against German homeland. It was also the place that most soldiers killed in enemy territory were buried. Here are a few pictures:
This is the symbol of the cemetery, it is a mourning woman next to a war-torn tree, but there is hope, peace represented by the three doves, and a new tree growing from the stump of the old one:

Meghan,
Great to see you in your pictures! I am pumped that you are blogging with photos. I feel like I can enjoy it each and every day. I do not expect you to blog daily I think that would be too hard.
How cool is the WW2 battle plan and history.
I love you and am excited for your time there!
Praying for you,
Love DAD
Meg - I knew I'd be able to find you! I missed you're call before you left and am still dreading it. Been thinking about you a lot tho and your foreign excursions...looks like you're havin a good time-and learning stuff too. yay! hope you meet lots of locals and engage in some good conversation...over a drink of course. i would recommend a brewski from a local brewery...they tend to have lots of character and they're totally unique than your average "bud lite." ugh...love you mucho! i could use some of your flava up in the mountains. Went up to copper yesterday and it snowed the entire time...so much fresh powder! OOOOHH, maybe you could hit the alps while you're there! remember -it's just money. Love love love you. I'll be in Texas for a few weeks at the end of may and i MUST see you then. Kisses and diet cokes from the rockies, my sweet meg.
